Michael's Story

Yesterday, I was listening to the Hugh Hewitt radio show on my way to school and heard the most incredible story about a family and others helping a homeless, loveless, very socially deprived boy--Michael Oher.

After class I went to the University library, got online, and found the story. It's 10 pages long, but I couldn't stop reading. If you need your faith in mankind restored, this is the read for you.

It's a story of compassion and care to one of the least among us. Not only that, it's a story of very unlikely success.

I encourage you to read this. It will make your day.

WOW!!
My brother in law and sister did something similar years ago. He now plays for the Philadelphia Eagles.
We call him Ka Boo. My brother in law was his high school football coach and my sister taught him how to read. He lived with them more than anything. And he ate real food and slept in a real bed.
My brother in law got fired as the head football coach for getting too many of THOSE kids into college on football scholarships and having an education.
He is now a guidance councelor at a different school and gets all kinds of THOSE kids into college.
They still have strays come home. Their oldest is a senior in high school. Straight A's and schools looking at him for football. Full ride of course. My brother in law is a former Dallas Cowboy. My sister has her Gold NCAA ring from College. She teaches the last chance kids for 2 high schools.
Their middle son Danny will go pro. Unless he gets hurt. He's endless in energy. And has a learning disability like mine. Family trait. A truly gifted athlete. Bad student. Oh well. We all can't get A's.
Cool story. We all make a difference in this world.
One day at a time.

Dale, thanks for the link.
I read Michael's story and found it indeed moving. A living example that Christ is still moving within and among us.

Hi Dale,
They are interesting people for sure. For some reason we all take in kids in need. I call them the throw away kids. They make it to teenagers, their parents can't handle them, and they have no place to go. Now my experience has also been these kids are really good kids. Their parents are just over whelmed by their personal lives and forget that they are parents. In their pursuit of personal satisfaction in relationships. So sad. But I got a few extras too. Best friends of my kids adopted us.
My brother in law loves the kids now that they are older. He had no clue what to do with his kids when they were born. But give him teenagers and he's a champ. Eat, work out, shape your mind and body, education, etc. Oh and play sports. Football for the boys, basketball for everyone, soft ball, base ball. There is not a sports season not taken for all 3. My sister is one busy girl. And exhausted. Oh memories of that life.

Dale,
La Boheme was the Opera my daughter saw last night.
She said it was an Opera, she had no idea what was going on, but the singing was amazing.

Hi Enid,

I'm glad you got to read this story. And yes that motivation on the part of the family clearly came through in the article. In fact, I was a little surprised that it was all portrayed that way in the universe of the NYT.

I hope you are enjoying your Sunday there in Belize.

Hello Carol,

I hope your day's a beautiful one. How wonderful that your sister and brother-in-law give themselves that way to children! That sounds so neat.

The last several time's I've seen opera, they had a marquee over the stage with the translations of the libretto scrolling in real time. It's too bad your kids didn't get that with theirs. It's so much more fun when you can follow along with the story line.

I hope your Sunday's an awesome one.

Ciao for now,
Dale

Hi there Sylvia,

I'm glad you found this one. It is such an inspiring story about the power of love-how it motivated those who helped Mike and how it transformed his life.

I'll look forward to your comments, my friend.

It was a good one Carol,

My first time to ever work the downtown library. They had me working all three floors which was fun. Take care around the planes!

Hope you're enjoying yourself.
